It is Official my Toe is Broken

June 8, 2011

Urrgh I am so piss. Two weeks ago on the day I pass my German Driver License I banged my foot really good in a hurry against the wall. The day after I went to a doctor office not to far from me and ask if someone can take a look at my foot. I think it might be broken for the lady to say sorry they don’t accept walk in only appointments. Therefore, I asked her is there a place I can go to nearby that take emergency. She wrote down the name for me but by the time I left I knew it was too late. Many business places close early in Germany. Few days later when I went to the name of the clinic the lady gave me. They was close. Came back home and look on the internet for the hours of operation. The internet stated that they are open for emergency after hours but no one was there! I said forget it. I can not believe how unorganized Germany is for a person who need assistance. I could go to any foot place in America and they would squeeze me in or tell me I must wait a few hours or so.

I told John what was going on because every day he ask me how is my foot feeling. Today was suppose to be my flight to America. John took off yesterday to take me to the airport but others things have came up and I need to be here encase if we get the place we have interest in. Since he was off he asked me if I would like for him to go with me to the clinic. I said sure it will save some money on taxi fare. Since I am not allowed to walk on my foot for too long. We reached to the clinic for the lady to tell us that we need to make an appointment which is not available until almost the end of July. We looked at each other like what. The other office say that you take emergency patient she explain right now it is a shortage of doctors so they can only take appointments. We left a little “t” off of how it is here when it comes to the medical field. It is really not so people friendly or orientated. Not all but many. So today John came home from work and asked me about my foot again. I told him it is not better and it look worst and swollen. We drove straight to the hospital for them to examine my foot to say it is broken and bandage my two toes together. Then my heart stop when the doctor said it is not good for me to fly with a broken swollen foot for a long amount of time because I can get thrombus. Something like that. John said he will see how I am doing a few days before the flight. If it okay by then he won’t cancel it again. But the doctor mention it will take 4-6 week for me to fully heal. Fly after that. What joy.

Good grief, I can’t believe how hard it’s been for you just to be seen by a doctor! Sorry it’s postponing your trip, but you don’t want to risk that thrombosis. Basically it causes a blood clot, and can be very dangerous. I guess just stay off your feet as much as possible for now.

John continue telling me the same about the thrombosis (I was trying to tell him I don’t think I will get it and he is not hearing me). But the doctor said if I wear the pressure hose, elevate my leg, and keep bandage on my foot I might heal up quickly. Even after all is good to still wear the pressure hose. Now we have to hunt for that. Right now I am just bum out. I really miss my family big time ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Argh! I’m so sorry to read this. I hope those weeks fly, and that you’re flying long before the full bone recovery. Gah.

Oh, gack! Am truly sorry to hear this. I wish you all the best.

Interestingly, just the other week a German friend and I were discussing how coldly people are treated here when they need to see a doctor. I do love living here, but that is definitely one of the negative aspects.

      Happy Pfingsten and thank you.
I so agree. I think they act the way they do because every time in the past when my husband use to alway accompany me they would engage in conversation and tell my husband how they are poorly paid and etc. But this is not our fault but they treat it as it is the patient fault. I never had so many doctors in my life because of the referral system and out of 4 regular doctors three of them have the okay in and out attitude. I really need to write about my first time experience one day.

Oh wow girl. I hope you will be alright. Even though I know its a pain being safe and healthy is more important so you sit there in Germany like a good woman and wait till you can fly lol. You will be able to fly very soon. Congrats on the license girl

Thank you Kay and I am trying to be a good ๐Ÿ™‚ If the swelling goes down good enough that I can’t make a dent or a mere dent when I press into my foot I am leaving. So far the swelling look like it is going down, but John said it is all in my mind. I will see on the 23 if it is really in my mind or not.

Oh, that really sucks! a broken toe is really painful, I’m glad you listened to your hubby and the drs, even though you really didn’t want to. Thrombosis is real and nothing to mess with, play it on the safe side. when you’re not on your feet, put it up. Alternate ice and heat and that will help relieve the swelling as well. ouchy ouchy ouchy. I hope it gets better soon so you can take your trip! And do what the drs tell you, no matter what a pain it is to see one. That still shocks me, can’t believe how hard it was for you. Booo.

Thanks DG, I am trying to listen. One day the swelling is going down than the next day I feel a tightness in my foot with pain. I asked the hospital for water pills they said I need to ask my “house doctor”. I will have to write about this one day. The house doctor is the chain of command who I am suppose to see first for her to referred me somewhere. Instead I went to the middle man and still got sent back to the house doctor. She said I don’t need water pills if I keep my legs elevated. I explain my other foot was broken years ago straight across and they gave me water pills to help get the swelling down. She told me it was not necessary.

Im so behind on comments atm, my apologies Lora, I also replied to OW, but will also post my comment on your foot here:
So sorry to hear that, it sounds so PAINFUL. Though there isnโ€™t anything wrong with having pride in your apperance, I think its an attitude of how you view life and yourself, vein wouldnโ€™t be you, but pride is nice ๐Ÿ™‚
Sad to hear your foot didnt heal the way it should, there are many beautiful shoes that have small heels, your feet would look devine in them, they can be harder to find sometimes, but they are out there, maybe even consider a TLC shoe in the future lol ๐Ÿ™‚
Btw, is this the same foot you where telling me about?
If your game, you could have corrective surgery so the bones are in the right place again?
sorry to hear the pain ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Hi Ow, no need to apologize, your busy…totally understand and can relate.I have boxes of low heels and high. It is the angle of the foot position that bother me once it is place in shoes. For dress shoes I have two dancing shoes if that is the name. They are flat and okay looking. They goes with almost everything, lol, except dresses. I look odd in them in dresses; therefore, I wear pants with them plus I have not wore a dress in years.

Yes same feet. I am a walking mess! I am always fracturing something or bruising myself. Unfortunately, I have not grew out of my clumsy stage as yet. Oh no, no feet surgery for me. It is only painful sitting on a tilt and does not cause any problem/pain when kept flat.
