Stop what your Doing and Back it Up!

December 20, 2010

I could scream this morning and I actually did!

My laptop been acting up for a few weeks. I think it dropped too many time and wanted to let me know it is not taking it any more.

I am a very anal person when it comes to certain things. I like to run a full viral check every few days and not just the schedule time. Plus I have been noticing a pop up appear every times I go to my main POP. I clear my cache, cookies, history, and empty out my temporary files but it still show up for some odd reason. So yesterday I tried to do a full viral scan but my computer continue freezing on me. So I decided to do it before I went to bed. I turn off my messenger so it would not interrupt or slow down the process. I woke up this morning to learn that only 72% have been completely checked. It does not normally take this long. Okay enough of my complaining and to the point.

My screen froze when I click a button. So I am thinking okay control, delete, alt should do the trick to unfreeze my screen as always. Instead my screen turn black!!! I always read that when you have black or blue screen don’t press control, alt, and delete again, but I never read not to turn off your computer! I turn off my computer by holding down the power button for 5 seconds, count to ten then boot my PC back up. Tell me why my computer could not find the Window system. The window system I have been using for 3 years. The system that has all my multimedia , web programs, my php, all my programing I created working long days and nights, my quotes, my expense charts, my future and past…hell it had all my important things on it which a few could not not be replicated!

I was getting frustrated and trying everything hoping that something will work. The only thing happen was that the PC started up over and over again by itself. Man did I wish my brother was here to help me out of this rut. He is a computer expert. He program, build them and taught me many things when I was taking web design, programing and multi media. He is the best! I really needed his insight today!

I took a deep breath and log on my working computer. John bought me a desktop computer a year before we move here because my laptop was running out of space. The programs I tend to use take up a lot of space and my laptop could not handle any more. The memories was dragging even with a 4 ram heavy duty “Tim Allen from Tool Time growl…Rah Rah Rah”, lol. Even though I have my desk top I still do my business quotes, keep a spread sheets of my contacts, prices, photos of products and etc on my laptop. I use my laptop for lighter work but is too lazy to transfer the information over. That changed today!

I look up information on how to make a back up CD for my Sony (32… personal note here:). I found one person who mention they had the exact same problem that I had. She press F10 and it bought up a window to restore your computer, transfer the data to another computer, or go back to manufacture setting. The only one interested me was restore back my computer so I can transfer the files myself! I click on restore setting. It mention I did not set one for window so it has nothing to restore it too. I am like what the clucky ducky! I know I have restore points! So I said, “You know what Lora you been told many time by your brother always have a back up and have a back up for that back up! My husband been telling me to transfer over my work to my desktop. I been telling myself ya okay eventually:(“.

I gave up. I turn off my computer and turn it back on one more time. Guess what … it work! The darn thing restore it after it lied to me. My computer lied to me! But all is forgiving because as soon as it open I transfer all my files and my hard drive component to my storage unit on my desktop and is about to make a back up disk! I can’t deal with stress that can be avoided! So if your a nut like me who have all your important work and documents on your PC please back it up. If you cant find your backup CD you can finds ways on the net with free download of how too. If you know that you have your backup CD somewhere in your house search for it high and low and place it in a draw close by. You might need that bad boy some day!

Wow, you got lucky! There are few things more horrifying than losing all your info on your hard drive! I don’t know which is worse, car problems or computer problems LOL Always good to be reminded to backup your important files.

Oh I am not lucky as yet, I am having problem backing up my file some strange error coming up to the end which is enable for it to be back up. This teach me a good lesson to not box up everything. Keep “all” my cd together! I am so tucker out but want to get this working before I throw it against the wall.

This is the error I continue to get when backing up my files: window vista backup file data error cyclic redundancy check (0x80070017)ā€Ž

I just ran a quick Google search on the error message, it seems like you have a lot of company. Didn’t find anything helpful right off, but you might try running a search in Google and see what you can find. Some of the tech sites can be really helpful.

LOL, yes I do and many people did not find a solution and the people who did are the smart people who kept their disk and know where to find it.
I found a site that told me to run Macrium Reflect for free. It will help me bypass the error and image my C drive. It almost work until the very end the process was aborted. I gave up. I went to bed around 4 this morning. My husband said as long as I transfer all my information over to my storage unit don’t worry about it no big deal. When the laptop die and give out we just buy a new one.
I don’t want a new one. I love my laptop because it is fully equip with all that I need! When they day it die is the die a nut like me will have a www funeral for it.
P.S. Thanks for looking up the info and rescue my insanity šŸ™‚

Oh goodness I would dread about losing so many photos and going nuts!
You know it is a good thing you came across my blog and mention you still have the hard drive. I think I can help you. I am always having some type of computer problem and my brother use to always fix them for me. But since I have to darn far away I have to do a lot of reading and learn to do things myself. One thing I learn is not to ever click on link that mention it can easily fix the problem if you download this. Those are viruses and will harm your computer more.

When you have time go to this link: https://liferealities.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/ways-to-get-rid-of-computer-viruses-and-maintain-your-system/

It is another post I wrote. I use it as a reference. Encase I forget something I go back and read my steps of what I tell others to do. Start reading the second paragraph under the video it will help you get back your photos. Because they have not deleted they actually are invisible.
